01 / Product & Fit

Does the factory know what it is making?

01
Is the garment clearly identified, including style name or reference?
Someone opening the pack should immediately know which product the information relates to.
02
Is the intended fit clearly defined?
For example: close, regular, relaxed, oversized, compression or another defined fit.
03
Is the intended wearer or target customer clear?
The same garment may need different fit and grading decisions for different customers.
02 / Measurements

Can the garment actually be measured?

04
Does the pack contain a complete garment measurement specification?Critical
This is one of the most important controls in the entire tech pack.
05
Are the Points of Measure clear enough for two different people to measure the garment the same way?
Names alone may not be enough if the measuring position could be interpreted differently.
06
Are tolerances shown where they are needed?
A factory needs to know what variation is acceptable, not just the target measurement.
03 / Grading

Do the sizes progress intelligently?

07
Is reliable grading information provided for the required size range?Critical
Either all sizes should be specified or clear grade rules should exist.
08
Do different Points of Measure use appropriate grade increments rather than one number being applied everywhere?
Chest, body length, neck opening and sleeve length do different jobs and may need different grading.
09
Have the largest and smallest sizes been sense-checked for intended fit?
A mathematically tidy grade does not guarantee a good fit at the ends of the size range.
04 / Fabric & Trims

Are the materials compatible as well as specified?

10
Are all fabrics used in the garment clearly specified?
This includes main and secondary fabrics such as rib, mesh, lining, pocketing or binding. Composition alone may not be enough.
11
Where more than one fabric is used, have the fabrics been checked for compatibility?Critical
Differential shrinkage, stretch, recovery, colourfastness and dimensional stability should be considered so one component does not distort another.
12
Are trims and components clearly specified and approved for use with the selected fabric?Critical
Zips, elastic, fasteners, cords, labels, transfers and prints should be suitable for the fabric, care process and intended end use.
05 / Construction

Can the factory understand how to make it?

13
Are the key seams, hems and construction methods clearly communicated?
The factory should not need to guess important construction decisions.
14
Are specialist or performance-critical construction details specifically controlled?
Particularly important in stretch, waterproof, compression or high-stress garments.
15
Do the technical drawings and written instructions agree with each other?
Contradictory pages are a common source of factory questions and mistakes.
06 / Branding, Samples & Control

Is the pack ready to be relied upon?

16
Are branding, labels and artwork placements clearly controlled?
Size, position, colour and approved artwork references should be clear where relevant.
17
Have known fit or sample problems been resolved rather than left open?Critical
A known unresolved fit issue should not disappear simply because the pack otherwise looks complete.
18
Are sample comments and latest approved changes reflected in the current technical pack?
The pack sent to production should contain the current decision, not require the factory to reconstruct development history.
19
Are obsolete instructions, old versions and contradictory information clearly removed or controlled?Critical
Old information left in a pack can be followed accidentally.
20
Would you personally be comfortable placing a production order using only the information in this pack?
The final question: would you risk your money on it?
